I haven't updated my blog in a while. I need to get used to having one. Here's what's new:
I have met some wonderful writers who gave me great advice.
Joanne Nelson - Latest book is This is How we Leave
Kathleen Eull - Latest book is Intercessions
I met both women at Books & Company, my favorite Indie Bookstore owned by Lisa B. They directed me to Kim Suhr and Red Oak Writing (I am officially a member, aka Penmonkey), and I am in a writer's roundtable where we share insights, suggestions and encouragement. Thank you Tom, Kim, Dan, Pam, India and Jo. Lot's of good stuff to learn and do.
I joined the Wisconsin Writers Association. This is another great resource. Podcasts, workshops, news of upcoming happenings etc. etc.
Last night I met Judy Bridges - Latest book is It Didn't Start Out That Way. This was once again at my favorite Indie Bookstore; Books & Company. Judy founded Red Bird Studio, which transitioned to Kim's Red Oak Writing.
Judy is a very funny, articulate and amazing woman. Her latest book is a memoir that took her many years to write.
She is also the author of: Shut Up and Write! This book developed from her workshop by the same name.
I've been writing every day. it's almost an obsession. I think my friends are forgetting what I look like. I continue to add to my compilation of short stories, I've written another creative meditation (this one about the prodigal son). I'm working on my second novel which involves lots of research. My characters have started taking over, and I'm hanging on and enjoying the ride.
After finishing my first novel, I did a lot of revisions and editing, but I've put it aside to 'rest'. I will look at it in September, and I hope to start sharing pages with my group of writers and friends for their valuable insights. I'm learning a lot about the craft, and I can see my growth.
Thanks to everyone who visits my site and keeps up with me.
I'm hoping I'll have publication news for you soon. I've got my fingers crossed.
